Suspect Arrested for 2017 Homicide

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Friday, May 15, 2020, the United States Marshalls Service with the assistance of Detectives from the Fayetteville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) took Jonathan B. Dawson (B/M, 32 years of age) into custody without incident in Raleigh, North Carolina.

 

Dawson had been wanted since 2018 for his involvement of the murder of Jacquan McBryde and the attempted murder of Paul Coleman, which occurred on September 25, 2017 along Knotty Elm Loop. Dawson was arrested on charges of 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Felony Conspiracy.

 

Dawson is currently in the Wake County Detention Center under no bond awaiting to be transferred to the Cumberland County Detention Center. A mugshot of Dawson is not available at the time of this release.

Suspect Wanted for 2017 Homicide

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have obtained arrest warrants on a suspect in connection with the homicide of Jaquan McBryde and the attempted murder of Paul Coleman, which occurred on September 25, 2017 along Knotty Elm Loop.

 

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have obtained warrants for the arrest of Jonathan B. Dawson (B/M, 30 years of age), of the 60 block of East 97th Street, New York City, New York.  Dawson has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Felony Conspiracy.

Detectives are encouraging family and friends of Jonathan B. Dawson to have him to turn himself into law enforcement. Dawson is known to frequent the Raeford Road corridor and the Hoke County area. Detectives also ask that anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Dawson to be cautious and contact law enforcement immediately as he is considered armed and dangerous.

Suspect Arrested for Homicide

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have charged and arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide of Jaquan McBryde and the attempted murder of Paul Coleman, which occurred on September 25, 2017 along Knotty Elm Loop.

 

Cartier S. Simpson (B/M, 18 years of age) of the 1400 block of Aultroy Drive in Fayetteville, has been arrested and charged with 1st Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Murder, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.

Simpson turned himself in to the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

 

This remains an active investigation and additional arrests may be forthcoming.

Update to Homicide Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified the victims of the shooting that took place on September 25, 2017 in the area of Knotty Elm Loop and Bending Birch Lane in the LaFayette Park Subdivision.

The first victim has been identified as Jaquan McBryde (B/M, 19 years of age). McBryde succumbed to injuries he sustained during the shooting.

 

The second victim has been identified as Paul Coleman (B/M, 18 years of age). Coleman sustained serious injuries during the shooting and currently remains at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Critical Condition.

 

Detectives with the FPD’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating the homicide and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

 

Fayetteville / Cumberland County Crimestoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

Homicide Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Monday, September 25, 2017 at approximately 5:33 pm, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the report of shots fired in the area of Knotty Elm Loop and Bending Birch Lane in the LaFayette Park Subdivision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that multiple subjects called the Fayetteville 911 Communications Center and stated that gunshots had been fired in the area. When FPD officers arrived on scene, they located two male victims. One of the males was pronounced deceased on scene. The other male was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Detectives with the FPD’s Homicide Unit are currently investigating the shooting and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The names of the victims are currently being withheld until their immediate families can be notified.
